 OVERVIEW

The goal of the Central Bank & Trust Art Crawl is to connect festival attendees with the Lander community through a celebration of the creative culture of climbing. Artists and creative entrepreneurs from Lander and the broader climbing community gather along Main Street between 1st and 4th streets to display and sell their work. Businesses are asked to “host” one or more artists and to draw people through their doors through creative activities or sidewalk sales, with free drinks or snacks as further enticement. The event sponsor and community partner, Central Bank & Trust, provides free tacos and beer inside the bank.

TIME

The 2023 Art Crawl will be on Thursday, July 11th from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Artists can start setting up at 3:00 pm, need to be present at their booth or table for the entire event, and have the option to stay until 8:30 pm if business is going well. This event is followed by the official “Opening Ceremonies” of the 2024 Climbers’ Festival, with the ClimbStrong pull-up comp and live music.

F(R)EE

Participation in the Art Crawl is free for artists/entrepreneurs as well as for attendees, and it is widely advertised to help increase the attendance of the general public. Usually, over 1000 people circulate through the Art Crawl event, making it one of the most highly attended and popular events of the Climbers’ Festival. The only “fee” for participation is a request for you to donate one quality item for the Festival Keynote Speaker Event Silent Auction which is on Saturday evening. In 2023 the silent auction proceeds will go towards the youth and Native climbing education programs that WyoClimbers supports. This item will be picked up by festival volunteers during the Art Crawl - please have it set aside and ready for them, with sufficient packaging to protect it during transport.

BENEFITS

Participating artists/entrepreneurs are eligible for a half-price Climbers’ Festival ticket that provides access to the rest of the festival activities and benefits. Climbing clinics and festival workshops are an additional but minimal cost. A coupon code and instructions for festival registration will be provided when tickets go on sale.

APPLICATION

The Art Crawl application will be available online through the ICF website until the deadline of May 10, but only the first 65 approved applicants will be accepted. We hope to have artist commitments by the end of May. Applicants will be notified on a rolling, first-come, first-served basis and will be provided with more details about the event at that point. You will also be asked to share a headshot of you and several thumbnail photos of your work so that we can highlight participants on our website and social media channels.

EQUIPMENT

Art Crawl participating artists need to provide their own tables, sun shades, pop-up tents, chairs, and anything necessary to hold it all down if it’s windy. (Tent weights are required!) If you are traveling for the event and cannot bring some of this with you, please contact us and we can help arrange for you to borrow a table and maybe a pop-up tent if available. Vans can also be creatively used along Main Street as sun shades/display cases for your work. Your display area must allow enough space for pedestrian traffic along the sidewalk and into businesses!

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES

Artists/entrepreneurs participating in the Art Crawl have the option to also participate in the Trade Fair on Friday, July 14th from 12-8 pm in City Park and the Farmers’ Market/Community Trade Fair on Saturday, July 15th, in the morning. There will be a small fee of $35/day ($50 for both days) for this additional participation and again this requires that you have your own booth materials such as table, sun shade, pop-up tents, chairs, and wind fasteners. There will be an artists’ alley or row at these Trade Fairs that connects to booths from over 50 major sponsoring brands. The main Friday Trade Fair also hosts a constant stream of fun contests and MC commentary with visits to most booths to highlight their wares. Many brand booths host mini-contests or drawings of their own to get people to spend time at their booth, so artists are encouraged to do the same. The Friday Trade Fair usually sees 1200 attendees, and the Saturday Farmers’ Market is a new collaborative event that will create additional crossover and collaboration with the broader Lander community. Please share this information and application with other artists who would be a good fit for the International Climbers’ Festival!
